Mechanical Design & Estimation Engineer – (ECSA) - EPC Company – East Rand

Industry: Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC)

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled BSc Mechanical Engineer with expertise in design and estimating to join our dynamic Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for mechanical design, cost estimation, and project feasibility assessments for industrial and infrastructure projects in South Africa.

Qualifications & Experience:

·        BSc in Mechanical Engineering (ECSA registration is an advantage).

·        3-7 years of experience in mechanical design and estimating within an EPC environment.

·        Strong knowledge of piping, pressure vessels, heat exchangers, HVAC, and rotating/static equipment.

·        Proficiency in AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Revit, Caesar II, or other design software.

·        Experience with cost estimation tools (Candy CCS, Primavera, or similar) is beneficial.

·        Familiarity with procurement, contracts, and tendering processes in South Africa.

·        Strong analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills.

Salary offer: Negotiable dependant on qualifications and experience

Key Responsibilities:

1. Mechanical Design & Engineering:

Develop and review mechanical system designs, technical drawings, and specifications.

Ensure designs comply with engineering standards (SANS, ASME, ISO, API) and project requirements.

Perform mechanical calculations and simulations for equipment sizing, material selection, and system efficiency.

Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including civil, electrical, and process engineers.

2. Estimating & Costing:

Prepare detailed cost estimates for mechanical systems, equipment, and installations.

Analyze tender documents, specifications, and drawings to develop competitive pricing strategies.

Source and evaluate supplier/vendor quotations for mechanical components.

Assist in preparing technical and commercial proposals for EPC projects.

3. Project Support & Execution:

Provide technical support during procurement, fabrication, and construction phases.

Conduct site visits to verify project execution aligns with design specifications.

Assist in risk assessment and value engineering to optimize project costs.

4. Compliance & Quality Assurance:

Ensure adherence to South African regulations (OHSA, NEMA) and industry best practices.

Participate in HSE (Health, Safety, and Environment) initiatives to maintain a safe working environment.
